Planting at the Las Vegas Wash

On April 1, 2023, Shine City Project participated in the Spring 2023 Wash Green-Up! Every year, organizations, families, and other volunteers gather to help to revegetate areas of the Las Vegas Wash. At each event, more than a few thousand native plants consisting of trees, shrubs, and grasses are planted over an area of several acres. These plants not only enhance the beauty of the Las Vegas Wash and the Clark County Wetlands Park, but they also provide habitats for wildlife and help protect the channel banks from erosion. On this Saturday morning, we had 18 volunteers representing Shine City Project, including some families! At this event, some of the native shrubs and grasses that were being planted were brittle bush, alkali sacaton, and catclaw acacia. With all the volunteers who were present both within and outside of our group, we were able to plant all 3,000 plants in 1.5 hours! Overall, it was a great experience for everyone!
